Announcements For Week 1...May 14th, 2023

I am extremely excited to share that there is a low-pressure introduction to the game of golf for young people. It is model after the Jr. PGA. It is not school affiliated; it is more that of a club sponsored by area golf courses and clubs. The following flyer is the one I had used to announce that our golf course was sponsoring a team. 

Simply, if you have or know a child under the age of fourteen (14) and has not enter high school is eligible to participate. Each course will host a nine-hole match from abbreviated tees and compete in a two-person scramble match play format. It is a fun, low pressure, family-oriented way to introduce young people to golf.

Last year was very enjoyable and successful and looking to make it better this year. 

This year's golf courses include, and are scheduled: 

June 4th - Chillicothe Country Club - Organizer Jason Fischer

June 11th - Pumpkin Vine Golf Course - Organizer Brian Oliver

June 25th - Player's Club at Foxfire - Organizer Brian Barnett

July 9th - Crown Hill Golf Course - Organizer Kevin Shoults

July 16th - Franklin Valley Golf Course - Organizer Terry Hale

July 30th - Pickaway Country Club - Organizer Rob Griffith

So, if you have young people near one of these courses, and they are interested in participating please contact your local organizer and they can help you with enrolling your young person. 

Next, Fairfield Union will like to announce several items to note. First, their annual Golf/Boys' Basketball Scramble Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, July 22nd at Pumpkin Vine Golf Course. There will be a morning and afternoon wave with the morning wave beginning at 8AM. The afternoon wave should begin around 1PM. Meals will be served for all participants between waves. There will be the usual contest/skill holes, 50/50, skins game, and cash prizes for first and second place for each wave. 

Fairfield Union in conjunction with Teays Valley High School are hosting a junior varsity invitational on Saturday, August 12th at 1PM at Pumpkin Vine Golf Course. They currently have twelve (12) teams and are looking for more interest. This is a great opportunity to get your junior varsity teams some good quality competition early in the season. Meals will be provided to all participants, and awards for 1st, and 2nd place. 

Finally, Fairfield Union is looking for a few more junior varisty matches to fill out its season. They are unable to host any more matches this season but would happily travel to you. Lastly, for this week. The Vinton County Golf/Boys' Basketball Team are announcing their largest and most important fundraiser. The 17th Annual Viking Scramble will be held on July 15th, at Franklin Valley Golf Course. Please refer to the flyer for details and contact information.
