OHSAA Meeting Notes November 15, 2023
Our State Representative Coach Rob Griffith of Logan Elm attended the state golf meeting and the following are his notes.
Coaches, We had our OHSGCA board meeting in Columbus today. If you recall, there was much to discuss. Below you will find my notes.
1. iWanamaker live scoring app.
a. The creator of the app spoke to the board.
i. Version 3 will be released this winter.
1. There will be a GolfLogix component (GPS)
2. It will be 10-100 times faster.
3. There will be national rankings for teams and individuals.
a. College coaches will have access.
b. Make sure your players have built their profile.
ii. I learned how to access stats from the previous 2 seasons.
1. Scoring avg.,GIR, PPR, Birdies, Pars, etc.
2. We have asked Doyle (iWanamaker) to speak at our clinic and educate us.
iii. This live scoring is not going away.
1. We need to be actively looking for golfers that are not updating their schools and confront them about this.
2. Coaching Rule
a. Can we have more than one coach?
i. Monroe Britton will be asking the OHSAA board to approve 2 coaches.
ii. He will also be looking to be changing the cell phone policy to allow coaches to text advice during competition.
iii. He stated that golf is the only sport that limits to one coach, yet the players are spread out over the largest area.
3. State Tournament
a. I asked Monroe about the lack of communication.
i. He and Doyle stated that this will be streamlined in V3 of iWanamaker.
b. New State Tournament site possibilities:
i. Westfield CC (likely)
ii. NCR
iii. Firestone
c. Monroe expressed an interest in expanding the tournament to 16 teams and individuals.
d. He also entertained the idea of girls and boys on different weekends.
4. Start Date
a. First Practice August 1, 2024
b. First Competition August 1, 2024 (not a typo) Expect this going forward.
5. Clinic
a. May 6, 2024
b. Wedgewood CC
c. Chris Cores is looking into getting a digital payment system such as Venmo set-up.
